Waters, other incumbents ahead in LA congressional races
Waters took 63% in early results as Democratic incumbents led six Los Angeles-area House races and advanced to November matchups.
On Tuesday, Democratic incumbents dominated Los Angeles congressional district primaries, securing the most votes across multiple districts according to the California Secretary of State's Office.
Maxine Waters, D-Inglewood, led the 43rd District with 63% of the vote, while Brad Sherman, D-Calabasas, topped the 32nd District with 37.8% as partial returns continue.
Ted Lieu, D-Santa Monica, secured 59.6% in the 36th District, while Sydney Kamlager-Dove, D-Los Angeles, earned 54.3% in the 37th, Nanette Diaz Barragan, D-Carson, got 73.7% in the 44th, and Jimmy Gomez, D-Los Angeles, received 48% in the 34th.
Top vote-getters will advance to the November 3 general election, where primary victors will face their respective challengers in district matchups.
Republican Cristian Morales, a manufacturing executive, trailed Waters with 19.6% in the 43rd, while Republican Larry Thompson, an attorney in Malibu, garnered 37% in the 32nd, and Democrat Angela Gonzales-Torres, an activist, secured 24.1% in the 34th.
