WA Ballot Results: Early Count on Millionaires Tax, Sports, Parent Rights
The measure would ban transgender girls from girls’ K-12 teams and require health care providers to verify biological sex, with legal challenges expected.
On Tuesday, Washington voters weighed three statewide initiatives, with early returns showing divergent outcomes for measures regarding taxes, parental rights, and transgender sports participation.
The ballot included Initiative 645 to repeal the 9.9% 'millionaires tax,' Initiative 001 to restore 2024 parental rights in public schools, and Initiative 638 to prohibit transgender participation in female scholastic sports.
Initial results show voters rejecting the I-645 repeal with 58.1% voting 'no' to keep the tax, while I-001 trails with 52.77% of voters opposing the parental rights restoration.
Conversely, Initiative 638 is passing with 56.7% in favor, requiring athletes to undergo "verification of biological sex" before competing in female sports, taking effect December 3, 2026.
Conservative hedge fund manager Brian Heywood's political committee, Let's Go Washington, advanced these measures, while Governor Bob Ferguson warned that repealing the tax "would decrease funding" for public education and healthcare.
