Walmart, Wing Add 7 Markets to Drone Delivery Expansion Plan
Wing says the service can deliver goods in as quickly as 30 minutes as Walmart aims to operate from 270-plus stores by 2027.
On Tuesday, Walmart and Wing announced plans to expand drone delivery to seven new metro areas including Philadelphia, Phoenix, New Orleans, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area, Salt Lake City, and Memphis.
Walmart has completed more than 1 million drone deliveries with an average time of 23 minutes, currently operating at 66 locations across Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas.
Wing's chief business officer Heather Rivera said the company is working to bring "ultra-fast delivery to 40 million residents throughout the U.S.," using drones that travel up to 60 mph.
Before launching in new cities, Wing and Walmart will coordinate with local leaders to introduce the service, designed to serve single-family homes, apartment buildings, and commercial delivery zones.
In Philadelphia, where Amazon launched 30-minute delivery earlier this year, Walmart operates five stores and seven suburban locations, planning to introduce drone service in the coming year.
