Wales Captain Morgan Missing Rest of Autumn Rugby Tests Including Key Japan Match
Jac Morgan dislocated his shoulder scoring a try against Argentina and will miss autumn internationals; uncapped Harri Deaves joins the squad, Wales aims to improve World Cup ranking.
Wales captain Jac Morgan will miss the remainder of the November internationals, starting with Saturday's test against Japan at Principality Stadium.
In the 52-28 defeat to Argentina, Jac Morgan injured himself scoring a try from his own tapped penalty and watched the closing stages from the bench with his left arm in a sling.
On Tuesday, uncapped flanker Harri Deaves was called up to replace Jac Morgan, with Wales head coach Steve Tandy saying, 'We’re all gutted to lose Jac — he’s a world-class player, as well as a great man off the pitch.'
Hooker Dewi Lake will assume the captaincy after leading Wales to their first win in 18 matches on the Japan tour in July, while Steve Tandy may reshuffle the back row with Alex Mann, Morgan Morse and Taine Plumtree among options.
Saturday's meeting with Japan doubles as a fight to reach Band 2 for the 2027 World Cup draw on Dec. 3 in Sydney and could determine Wales's tournament banding.
