KERALA, INDIA, JUL 22 – V.S. Achuthanandan led Kerala's Communist Party for decades, pioneering reforms for farmers and workers and shaping the state's political landscape until his death at 101.
- On July 23, 2025, V.S. Achuthanandan was laid to rest in Alappuzha with full state honours, amid a three-day state mourning period until July 24.
- Amid early hardships, he lost both parents and joined the Communist Party at age 17 in 1940.
- During his tenure from 2006 to 2011, he led reforms, served as Chief Minister, and introduced measures benefiting working people, Antony said.
- At the state capital, mourners lined the roads, with leaders including Pinarayi Vijayan and M.A. Baby paying respects.
