Volkswagen Beetle Spider in Avoca, Iowa

Summary by Atlas Obscura
Out in southwestern Iowa, near Avoca, there’s a giant spider made from a Volkswagen Beetle, perched on eight spindly metal legs, part sculpture, part cornfield sentinel. Built in the late 1980s by siblings, as a gift for their father, the sculpture uses the painted body of an old VW Beetle mounted high above the ground. It’s visible just over the corn when driving toward town.
