Virginia Tech staged a furious seventh-inning rally, overcoming a five-run deficit to defeat Akron 7-6 and earn a shot at LSU in the regional final.
Virginia Tech rallied past Akron, 7-6, to secure a spot in the Baton Rouge Regional final, keeping the Hokies' 2026 season alive after trailing for most of the contest.
Facing elimination after an 8-0 defeat to LSU, the Hokies entered the elimination bracket trailing 6-1 against the Zips entering the final frame of the game.
Seven straight hits in the seventh inning fueled the comeback, with the team scoring six runs in the final frame to seize the lead from Akron.
With the victory, Virginia Tech advances to the regional final where they must defeat LSU to continue their postseason run toward the Super Regional round.
The championship round is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at Tiger Park, where a victory would send the Hokies to the Super Regional round.
