Kent Teen Posed as Wheelchair in Supermarket Robbery Before Attacking Guard
Brown used a wheelchair disguise to steal beer and assaulted staff, resulting in injuries and a 3-year, 1-month prison sentence, police said.
- On Thursday, Davey Brown, 19, pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court to three years and one month's imprisonment.
- Davey Brown, 19, pretended to be a wheelchair user with an unidentified accomplice at Sainsbury's in Staplehurst, hiding two crates of beer beneath a jacket on his lap to leave without paying.
- A security guard was punched and hit with thrown bottles and cans as Brown tried to escape, injuring one shop employee who required treatment.
- Following the case, prosecutors recorded charges of robbery, affray, two counts of damaging property, common assault, using threatening words and behaviour, using a motor vehicle on a road without insurance, and disqualified him from driving; a 17-year-old boy was also arrested and charged.
- Police detained Brown about 30 minutes after the incident; PC Ricky Strong said Brown endangered a motorist, attacked staff, and threatened arresting officers.
