In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the situation remains tense in several localities about ten kilometres south of the city of Uvira in the province of South Kivu. On Saturday, 3 January, the Congolese army, aided by the Wazalendo, to AFC/M23, allied with the Twirwaneho group, and supported by Rwanda according to various UN reports, fought in Kigongo and other outlying localities; detonations were heard as far as Uvira.
