Vile slur as Jewish teens chased

  • On Monday, five Orthodox Jewish teenagers aged 15 and 16 were stalked and chased in St Kilda East, with CCTV capturing them fleeing at Glen Eira Road and Hotham Street.
  • Occupants of the vehicle allegedly hurled antisemitic abuse and Nazi slogans, including the phrase Heil Hitler, prompting Jewish leaders to label the attack terrorism amid rising incidents.
  • CCTV shows the vehicle ran a red light, deliberately drove at the group, circled for five to six minutes, then performed a U-turn nearly striking one teen, Southern Metro Region Acting Commander Adrian Healy said.
  • Victoria Police are investigating, have identified two persons of interest believed under 20 and urge witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000; no injuries occurred, and the vehicle left soon after.
  • The incident occurred about 100m from the Adass Israel Synagogue, firebombed just over 12 months ago, prompting MPs and community leaders to urge Victorian parliament to strengthen anti‑hate laws.
