Vikings Sign Pair of Running Backs, Bolster Depth in Backfield
Minnesota added five players, including running back Audric Estime and punter Johnny Hekker, to address injuries and special teams depth.
On Wednesday, the Minnesota Vikings signed five players to their practice squad, including running backs Audric Estime and Devin Neal, punter Johnny Hekker, outside linebacker Keshawn Banks, and guard Josh Priebe.
Running back Jordan Mason sits on injured reserve with a fractured thumb while Aaron Jones plays with a knee issue, and punter Brett Thorson nurses a hamstring strain, prompting the Vikings to clear roster spots earlier this week.
Estime, a 2024 fifth-round Denver Broncos pick, has run for 508 yards and three touchdowns across 20 NFL games, averaging 4.2 yards per carry and recording 198 yards with the Saints before being waived earlier this month.
Both Estime and Neal tried out Tuesday, with Hekker filling in for Thorson during Week 3 before his Tuesday release and re-signing to the practice squad, moves confirmed by Vikings.com reporter Rob Kleifield.
Though their roles remain uncertain, Neal and Estime offer intrigue as young players with something to prove, while Priebe, a 2025 undrafted free agent from the Miami Dolphins, seeks his first NFL regular season opportunity.
