Victoria linesmen among Island hockey officials invited to NHL combine
Five officials from the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League have been selected to participate in the NHL Officiating Exposure Combine taking place in Buffalo, New York, from August 14 to 17, 2025.
This opportunity emerged due to the VIJHL’s strong development program and its collaboration with the British Columbia Hockey League, leading to a record number of VIJHL officials being selected for the NHL Officiating Exposure Combine.
The combine spans four challenging days of both on-ice and off-ice evaluations aimed at testing the abilities of young officials and determining who is prepared to advance to the professional level.
VIJHL chair Shawn Vincent expressed pride as five league officials had the opportunity to gain direct experience with the NHL, while director Carl Poole noted that these recognitions highlight the hard work put in throughout the season.
The participation of these five officials signals progress for Island hockey officiating and could elevate the overall standard of refereeing in the VIJHL moving forward.
