Esparto Fireworks Explosion: DNA Testing Underway to Identify Victims, Officials Say
ESPARTO, JUL 7 – The explosion in Esparto claimed the lives of seven people including young workers and fathers, with families and community members mourning and sharing their stories.
- On July 1, 2025, an explosion occurred at a fireworks storage site located close to the intersection of County Roads 23 and 86A in Esparto, resulting in seven fatalities and two injuries.
- The facility belonged to Devastating Pyrotechnics, and the State Fire Marshal is leading an ongoing investigation into the explosion and permit compliance.
- Seven sets of remains were recovered over the weekend, including three brothers who worked at the warehouse, while crews conduct burn off operations to handle undetonated explosives.
- Yolo County officials reported that DNA testing to identify the victims is in progress, with results anticipated soon; however, two of the seven victims have yet to be identified.
