Veteran pilot killed fighting N.W.T. wildfire was a trusted leader and patient mentor
Robert MacLeod was a veteran pilot with over 25 years of experience who died in a plane crash while fighting a wildfire in the Northwest Territories on June 24, 2023.
MacLeod worked as a bird dog captain for Buffalo Airways for three seasons, collaborating with territorial and provincial wildfire agencies.
Before joining Buffalo Airways, he flew as a bird dog and waterbomber pilot in New Brunswick and also served as a medevac captain and flight instructor.
MacLeod was known for his calmness under pressure, dependable teamwork, and significant contributions to aerial firefighting across Canada.
