Veteran faces long road to recovery after devastating crash

SAUK RAPIDS — Charon Ricks was just helping out. The tow truck driver was outside of his truck pulling a car out of a ditch on Monday, Jan. 13, when a van lost control and crashed into Ricks' truck. Ricks was struck by his truck in the crash. Nearly a month later, Ricks has had seven surgeries, according to his longtime friend, Heather Odenthal. Now, the 47-year-old Sauk Rapids man and military veteran will have to have his right leg amputated. …
