Vernon Public Art Gallery Raises Record-Breaking $115,000 at Annual Fundraiser
The annual gala marked a fourth straight record year, with auction highlights led by a $6,500 Heidi Thompson painting and strong community support.
On Wednesday, July 15, the Vernon Public Art Gallery held its 40th anniversary Midsummer's Eve of the Arts fundraiser at the Coldstream Community Hall, raising a record-breaking $115,000.
Marking a fourth consecutive record-breaking year, the event secured funds to sustain contemporary art exhibitions and educational programming as Executive Director Dauna Kennedy noted the gallery remains in a strong position.
Bidding reached a peak with Heidi Thompson's 'Soft Shower of Light in Blue' selling for $6,500, while James Postill's two paintings brought $6,150 and Gabrielle Strong's 'Wrapped in Sky' fetched $3,400.
Long-Time auctioneer Don Raffan led the live auction, which concluded with Doug Alcock's 'Rain Forest' selling for $2,200; Alcock has donated artwork to the fundraiser since its earliest years.
The evening fostered a multi-generational atmosphere, bringing together long-time supporters and new attendees. Kennedy expressed gratitude to the "volunteers, board members, staff, contributing artists and businesses, and attendees" who ensured the event's success.
