Three Children Missing After Hiking Camel's Hump Located Safely
DUXBURY, VERMONT, JUL 11 – Three children were found safe after an overnight search involving multiple rescue teams, located about half a mile from their camp after a planned 30-minute hike.
- Three kids participating in a camp hike on the Long Trail became lost in the area around Camel’s Hump in Duxbury on Thursday afternoon.
- The children were declared missing when they did not come back after approximately 90 minutes, despite the hike initially being planned to last around 30 minutes.
- Several groups, including K9 units from New England and North Country, the Upper Valley Wilderness Response crew, and personnel from the Vermont Air National Guard, took part in an overnight search operation.
- Vermont State Police located the children early Friday morning about half a mile from their camp in wooded terrain, and they were escorted off the mountain.
- The children are now being reunited with their families after the successful search and rescue operation.
