After Two Years of Paying the Bills, Canadian Premier League Pulls the Plug on Valour
Valour FC will cease operations after 2025 due to financial losses exceeding $1 million and unsuccessful investor recruitment, the Canadian Premier League confirmed.
Yesterday, Valour FC ownership informed the Canadian Premier League it intends to suspend operations following the 2025 season after a league review concluded there was no sustainable path forward.
The league had repeatedly stepped in, providing loans in 2024 and again this season, while the Winnipeg Blue Bombers reported $1.25 million and $950,000 losses, reflecting financial strain.
The club thanked supporters and pledged to honour contracts through year-end, while players under contract after 2025 will become free agents or return to parent clubs; Valour FC follows FC Edmonton as the league's second franchise to cease operations.
The CPL said it will remain an eight-team circuit in 2026 with FC Supra du Québec joining, after exploring potential investors and alternative operational models before concluding Valour was not sustainable.
Local financial pressures and the CPL's strategic focus shaped the club's fate, as the Winnipeg Football Club, the non-profit community-owned operator, left Valour on shaky ground while the CPL said it must focus resources for long-term impact.
