After Cutting Union Contracts, VA Redirects $45M to Veterans
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is redirecting nearly $45 million to care for veterans by canceling contracts with most unions, which they claim oppose veterans' interests.
After the cancellation of union contracts, the number of VA bargaining unit employees was reduced from about 375,000 to approximately 7,000.
VA officials stated that most employees are now back to full-time work for veterans and that over 180,000 square feet of office space has been reclaimed for veterans' services.
The American Federation of Government Employees is exploring legal options to challenge the contract cancellations and restore union rights, arguing that the administration's actions are retaliatory.
