Uttarakhand's 'Operation Kalanemi' Takes Down Fake Sadhus
DEHRADUN DISTRICT, UTTARAKHAND, INDIA, JUL 13 – Dehradun police arrested 82 fake babas exploiting public faith under Operation Kalanemi, including 23 from other states and one Bangladeshi national, officials said.
- On July 13, 2025, Dehradun Police arrested 82 imposters under Operation Kalanemi, bringing the total to 82.
- Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh said the campaign launched on Thursday followed Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's orders, and Dhami said `just as the asur Kalanemi tried to mislead, many such Kalanemis exist today.`
- On July 12, 2025, Dehradun Police detained 23 imposters and apprehended Bangladeshi national Rukn Rakam alias Shah Alam on Friday.
- The SSP added that in the last three days 82 individuals have been arrested and legal action is being taken under BNS provisions, said Ajay Singh, and legal action is being taken under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against 82 arrested individuals.
- The campaign will continue in the coming days, and 'Operation Kalanemi' aims to restore public confidence and ensure reverence is not weaponized for deceit to protect faith from exploitation.
