US Soccer Plans New National Women's Club Competition
The single-elimination event will award $1.5 million and give clubs a route to the CONCACAF W Champions Cup, U.S. Soccer said.
On Wednesday, U.S. Soccer announced the Arthur M. Blank Crest Cup, a new single-elimination tournament featuring teams from the National Women's Soccer League and the Gainbridge Super League.
Modeled after England's FA Cup and the U.S. Open Cup, the competition aims to spur player development with a $1.5 million prize pool, including $1.1 million awarded to the tournament winner.
U.S. Soccer CEO JT Batson called the tournament "a defining moment for women's soccer," while President Cindy Parlow Cone said "women's soccer continues to be one of the most dynamic and inspiring forces in sport."
Tournament winners will qualify for the CONCACAF W Champions Cup, while federation officials are considering future expansions to include lower-division professional and amateur clubs alongside the top-flight leagues.
Although no official start date is confirmed, ESPN reports the cup is expected to begin in 2028, capitalizing on rapid growth in women's professional soccer across the United States.
