US says it disables another commercial ship trying to breach blockade and reach Iran
U.S. forces fired a Hellfire missile after the crew ignored more than 20 warnings, CENTCOM said, and the ship remains adrift.
On Saturday, the U.S. military disabled the Gambia-flagged bulk carrier Lian Star in the Gulf of Oman after it ignored multiple warnings while attempting to breach the American blockade of Iranian ports.
The American blockade began April 17 following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz after the war started with American and Israeli strikes on Feb. 28, with a fragile ceasefire holding since April 7.
U.S. aircraft disabled the vessel, which remains adrift in the Gulf of Oman without American forces boarding it; this marks the sixth ship stopped attempting to breach the blockade.
Events in the Strait of Hormuz have stranded supplies of oil and gas, increasing strain on consumers and food producers, while pro-government Iranian demonstrators gathered in Tehran on Friday waving portraits of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
President Donald Trump met with advisers on Friday to discuss extending the fragile ceasefire by 60 days and reopening the Strait, though he has yet to decide whether to finalize the deal.

The US military prevented a Gambian-flagged commercial ship from proceeding to an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman. Despite repeated warnings, the ship failed to comply. In response, the US Air Force fired a Hellfire missile into the ship's engine room, completely disabling it.
