U.S. News Unveils 2026-2027 Best Global Universities Rankings

- On Tuesday, U.S. News & World Report published the 2026-2027 Best Global Universities rankings, evaluating more than 2,250 schools across more than 100 countries on academic research and reputation.
- Powered by Clarivate data from the Web of Science Core Collection and InCites Benchmarking, the methodology weighs research reputation and bibliometric indicators including publications, citations, and international collaboration.
- Of the 51 subject rankings, four areas—water resources, chemical engineering, energy and fuels, and clinical medicine—feature more schools this year; the top 10 includes MIT, Oxford, and Cambridge.
- LaMont Jones, managing editor for Education at U.S. News, said the rankings serve as an "essential comparative resource" that helps students identify institutions at the forefront of global knowledge creation.
- Geographic representation spans more than 100 countries, with the United Kingdom hosting 93 universities and regional leaders identified across Asia, Latin America, and Australia.
