U.S. News Introduces the 2026 Best Adventure Vehicles
U.S. News evaluated 148 new vehicles and honored winners across four segments for camping, road trips and off-road use.
On Wednesday, U.S. News & World Report announced its first-ever 2026 Best Adventure Vehicles awards, evaluating 148 new vehicles across 18 classes to recognize standout options for camping, road-tripping and off-road exploration.
U.S. News recognized that adventure means different things to different drivers, prompting category-specific evaluation methods. John Vincent, U.S. News senior editor for vehicle testing, said "Adventure means something different to every driver, whether it's tackling trails, setting up camp or hitting the open road."
Off-Road assessments measured trail capability through ground clearance and approach angles alongside skid plates and all-terrain tires. Road-trip and camping evaluations prioritized cargo space, passenger comfort, fuel economy and convenience features, with electric and hybrid vehicles earning recognition across multiple categories.
Rivian dominated electric off-road categories with R1T and R1S wins, while GMC emerged as a standout with four distinct honors including GMC Acadia and GMC Sierra EV. Ford claimed three off-road victories with Ford Bronco Sport Sasquatch and Ford Bronco, plus F-150 Raptor and Tremor models.
The inaugural awards recognize both established names like Jeep Wrangler and Toyota Tacoma TRD-Pro alongside emerging options including Nissan Armada PRO-4X and recently redesigned Toyota RAV4 Woodland. Since 2007, U.S. News Best Cars has ranked the majority of new vehicles sold in America, positioning these adventure awards as an expansion of that mission.
