U.S. News announces 2026-2027 best hospitals
U.S. News evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals and said the honor roll reflects stronger risk-adjusted outcomes and new regional specialty rankings.
- On Tuesday, U.S. News & World Report released its 2026-2027 Best Hospitals rankings, naming 20 hospitals to the Honor Roll. The edition evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals across 14 adult specialties and 23 procedures and conditions.
- Performance-Driven metrics, including risk-adjusted mortality rates and patient experience, determined the rankings. Only 16% of nearly 4,500 hospitals earned a "Best Hospitals" designation for demonstrating superior patient outcomes.
- The 20 Honor Roll hospitals, ranked alphabetically, include Brigham and Women's Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, and Johns Hopkins Hospital. These facilities earned the most points out of a possible total of 566 points.
- This year's edition introduced four new regional specialty rankings to help families evaluate local options. Bay Area medical centers, including Stanford Hospital and UCSF Health-UCSF Medical Center, ranked among the 20 best hospitals for adults.
- "For nearly four decades, U.S. News has helped families and their medical providers navigate complex healthcare decisions," Ben Harder, chief of health analysis at U.S. News, said. The rankings ensure American families can confidently find high-quality care.
