U.S. Mint Releasing Limited-Edition Fourth of July Quarters for America's 250th Anniversary

The limited-edition coins will be mixed into circulation nationwide and bank distribution begins before the Fourth of July, the Mint said.

  • On Tuesday, June 23, The United States Mint announced it will produce 250,000 semiquincentennial 2026 Independence Quarter designs featuring a special "July 4th" privy mark to celebrate America's 250th anniversary.
  • To encourage discovery, the Mint will mix these coins into general circulation randomly. "Bearing no mint mark, these unique quarters will be placed randomly into circulation," the Mint said in a news release.
  • Celebrating the nation's 250 years, the obverse design features Thomas Jefferson and the inscription "1776 ~ 2026," while the reverse depicts the Liberty Bell ringing to honor America's defining ideals of Liberty.
  • This release joins other semiquincentennial commemorations, including the Revolutionary War Quarter and the Mayflower Compact Quarter, which are already circulating; the Constitution Quarter and Gettysburg Address Quarter are also part of the series.
  • Financial institutions will receive these coins in time for the Fourth. Acting Director Kristie McNally said these designs "depict the story of America's journey toward a 'more perfect union.
