Democrat Suhas Subramanyam wins reelection to U.S. House in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District
Subramanyam won a second term with 63.16% of the vote, according to NBC News, as Indian-American Democrats posted early midterm gains.
On Tuesday, Democrat Bob Brooks defeated Republican incumbent Representative Ryan Mackenzie for Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District, flipping a Republican-held seat in a presidential battleground state.
A retired Bethlehem, Pennsylvania firefighter, Brooks centered his campaign on blue-collar issues, pledging to "put the fire out" in Congress and address labor and affordability concerns.
Endorsed by Governor Josh Shapiro and Senator Bernie Sanders, Brooks ran on repealing Citizens United and raising the minimum wage, drawing on his experience as president of the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association.
Nationally, Democrats need to net four seats to win control of the U.S. House of Representatives, making this district flip a crucial step in the party's effort to reclaim the legislative majority.
Mackenzie held the 7th Congressional District for two years after his 2024 election; despite a summer visit from President Donald Trump, the incumbent failed to secure a second term against Brooks.
