US has passed 2K measles cases this year: CDC
Roughly 92% of infections are in unvaccinated people or those with unknown status, the CDC said, as cases top 2,000 for the second year.
On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 2,030 confirmed measles cases in 2026 across 39 states and the District of Columbia, marking the second consecutive year infections surpassed 2,000.
Unvaccinated individuals account for roughly 92% of this year's infections, according to CDC data, with 6% of the 2,030 total patients, or 127 people, requiring hospitalization.
Piedmont Health District Director Dr. Maria Almond and Lynchburg-based Centra Health are managing a 91-case cluster in Virginia by dispatching paramedics for home visits, preventing hospitalizations through early intervention.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. urged vaccination at a Wednesday presser, while Florida and Pennsylvania reported 154 and 50 cases respectively in active outbreaks across multiple counties.
With only 10 infections linked to international travelers, most spread occurs within United States communities, though Manitoba Health reported 596 confirmed cases this year as officials warn outbreaks may persist for months.
