Americans filing for jobless benefits last week rises to highest level in months
Filings for U.S. unemployment benefits rose by 8,000 to 247,000 for the week ending May 31, marking the highest level in eight months, according to the Labor Department.
The four-week average of jobless claims increased by 4,500 to 235,000, the most since late October, as reported by the Labor Department.
The total number of Americans receiving unemployment benefits decreased by 3,000 to 1.9 million for the week of May 24.
Many companies cited uncertainty from President Donald Trump's tariff announcements affecting sales and profit expectations for 2025.
