Fired judge says Colorado’s immigration courts focus on rapid deportations, not due process
Colorado-based Judge Brea C. Burgie is speaking out on her firing in June by the Trump administration amid its efforts to reshape the immigration court system to deport millions of immigrants.
According to a recent report by the non-profit immigration agency Mobile Pathways, U.S. immigration courts are increasingly holding master calendar hearings (also known as small courts), which means that courts are significantly reducing the time available for asylum seekers to prepare for hearings and scheduling trials more frequently.
