Well, I guess a little reciprocity is long overdue. Thai immigration and government are far-right nationalists etc., fair play to make it the same the other way round... can't have it both ways. Reciprocity in immigration rules should be universal. There are millions of Thais taking advantge of soft western liberal immigration policies and naturalisation opportunities... but here in Thailand its might as well be North Korea, not okay.
