U.S.-Designated Terrorist Muhammad Sarwar Dies in Lahore
The LeT financier and Lahore emir died after a fall on mosque stairs, and funeral prayers were set for 10:30 pm, officials said.
On Sunday, Muhammad Sarwar, a U.S.-designated global terrorist and Lashkar-e-Taiba Lahore chief, died in Lahore. Local reports indicate he died "due to a head injury sustained after falling down the stairs."
In 2016, the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control designated Sarwar as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, citing his role in managing LeT's financial networks and fundraising operations within Pakistan.
Sarwar's funeral was scheduled for Sunday night at Jamia Al-Qadsia in Lahore's Chuburji area. PMML, a political offshoot of Hafiz Saeed's Jamaat-ud-Dawa , mourned their "strong and fearless leader," said Muzammil Iqbal Hashmi.
PMML leaders including Khalid Masood Sindhu and Saifullah Qasuri expressed grief over the loss of their party leader, who had managed LeT's Lahore chapter for more than 10 years with extensive ties to senior leadership.
Sarwar's death occurs while Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed remains imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat Jail, where he has been held since 2019 following multiple convictions related to terror financing cases.
