US astronaut to take her 3-year-old's cuddly rabbit into space
Jessica Meir will carry a stuffed rabbit to the International Space Station to stay connected with her daughter during the eight-month mission, NASA said.
- On Sunday, Jessica Meir said she will carry her three-year-old daughter's stuffed rabbit to the ISS, joining the four-member Crew-12 mission.
- Astronauts customarily bring small personal items to the International Space Station, which orbits 250 miles above Earth, and Jessica Meir said an eight-month separation from her child is difficult.
- Meir, a marine biologist and physiologist, joins Crew-12, which includes NASA's Hathaway, ESA's Adenot, and cosmonaut Fedyaev, according to NASA.
- With the ISS slated for deorbit in 2030, Crew-12 will replace Crew-11, which returned early in January during the station's first medical evacuation.
- NASA says Crew-12 will lift off early Wednesday from Cape Canaveral aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, and Meir plans to send photos of her daughter's stuffed rabbit on the ISS back to her family.
