US announces effort to disrupt hacking infrastructure run by China's Integrity Tech Group
Officials said the move is the second public disruption effort against Integrity Tech, whose botnet involved more than 250,000 compromised devices.
On Thursday, the Justice Department seized seven internet domains used by Chinese hackers linked to Integrity Technology Group to disrupt scanning and hacking of critical infrastructure systems in the United States and abroad.
This operation marks the second public effort to disrupt the firm's hacking infrastructure; in September 2024, the department disrupted an Integrity Tech botnet comprising more than 250,000 compromised consumer devices.
FBI Director Christopher Wray previously identified Integrity Tech as the group behind "Flax Typhoon," stating the firm carried out "intelligence collection and reconnaissance functions for Beijing" security agencies.
The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday, while Beijing routinely denies conducting hacking operations.
Addressing state-sponsored espionage remains a persistent security challenge for the United States as officials work to hamper ongoing infrastructure-focused attacks by Chinese state-linked groups.
