School District Addresses Candy Given Out in Medicine Bottles
The district said the giveaway was inappropriate and apologized to families, promising to reinforce medication safety after the Halloween-themed distribution.
On Saturday, Laurens County School District 56 in Clinton, South Carolina, apologized after distributing candy to students inside medicine bottles at Eastside Elementary School.
District officials emphasized that the organization "does not promote or encourage students to play with medicine bottles," teaching students these containers should never be used as toys.
Although officials cited good intentions, leadership stated those involved "would never knowingly do anything to put a child in harm's way," yet acknowledged the distribution method was inappropriate.
The school district apologized to families and the community for the situation, pledging to reinforce student safety protocols and ensure such an incident does not happen again.
Student well-being remains the district's top priority, with this response aligning with broader Halloween safety discussions including recent disclaimers on Reese's products following litigation.
