Unpublished discovery: a 2200-year-old Greek auditorium found in Sicily

In Agrigente, the ancient Greek colony of Sicily, archaeologists have just revealed an unmatched educational building known in the ancient Greek world. Discovered in the enclosure of a monumental gymnasium, this covered semicircular auditorium, dating from the 2nd century B.C.E., questions the chronology of teaching spaces in Greek cities. It precedes by centuries the comparable structures identified elsewhere, especially in Asia Minor.
