Until now, conclusive photonic Bell measurements beyond two dimensions demanded additional photons or entanglement. This limitation is overcome by demonstrating a deterministic discrimination of all d² Bell states using only a rank-d auxiliary entangled state. Establishing this quantifiable Schmidt rank as a resource opens new avenues for optimising photonic quantum protocols without ancilla photons.
