United to Resume Daily Houston–Venezuela Flights After Nearly a Decade

United will resume daily nonstop service after the U.S. lifted its 2019 ban on flights to Venezuela.

  • On Tuesday, United Airlines announced it will resume daily direct flights between George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and Simon Bolivar International Airport in Caracas, with service beginning Aug. 11.
  • The restart follows U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy lifting a 2019 ban on flights to Venezuela in January, directed by President Donald Trump following diplomatic improvements and the removal of former president Nicolas Maduro.
  • United will deploy aircraft on the route, with flights departing Houston at 11:45 p.m. and arriving in Caracas at 5:30 a.m., after the carrier previously operated service for nearly 20 years before suspending operations in 2017.
  • The State Department downgraded its travel advisory for Venezuela from "Do Not Travel" to "Reconsider Travel" in March, while American Airlines recently resumed flights between Miami International Airport and Caracas, ending a seven-year gap.
  • International carriers including Avianca and Copa Airlines have also restored service to Venezuela, as United aims to strengthen cultural and economic ties while reinforcing its Houston hub as a gateway to the Americas.
