Union Cabinet Approves Ahmedabad Metro Link to Airport Ahead of Commonwealth Games 2030
On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet approved the Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2A project, a 6 km corridor connecting Koteshwar Road to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, costing Rs 2,169 crore to strengthen infrastructure for the Commonwealth Games 2030.
The new line will feature four elevated stations and one underground station, integrating with railways and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train while construction generates employment for around 2,500 people over four years.
In a separate decision, the Cabinet approved new infrastructure in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, including a Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation costing Rs 1,299 crore and a residential complex costing Rs 1,235 crore.
The residential complex will span 17 acres with 1,504 dwelling units designed to accommodate approximately 8,000 officials, as the Central Public Works Department has initiated the pre-bid process for these developments.
Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that these three major infrastructure approvals carry a combined outlay of Rs 4,703 crore, marking a shift from planning to execution in both cities.
