Union Berlin appoint first female coach after Baumgart sacking
- On Sunday, Union Berlin appointed Marie-Louise Eta as interim manager, making her the first woman to lead a men's team in Europe's top five football leagues.
- Union Director of Sport Horst Heldt dismissed Steffen Baumgart after a 3-1 loss to Heidenheim left the club with only two wins in 14 matches since the winter break.
- Previously the Bundesliga's first female assistant coach, Eta won the 2010 Women's Champions League as a player and holds a UEFA Pro License qualifying her for professional management.
- Eta takes charge for the final five games, with her first match next Saturday against relegation rivals VfL Wolfsburg before transitioning to lead Union's women's team this summer.
- "Given the tight situation at the bottom of the table, our survival in the Bundesliga is not yet secure," Eta warned, stressing the need for the club to unite.
