Finland loses 64,000 jobs as unemployment hits 9-year high

Finland’s labour market weakened significantly in February, with employment falling by 64,000 compared to the same time last year and unemployment reaching its highest level since 2016. According to data from Statistics Finland, the employment rate for those aged 15–64 dropped to 71.4 percent. The overall unemployment rate for those aged 15–74 rose to 9.1 percent, marking a two-tenths increase from January.

The proportion of unemployed job seekers is higher among Finnish men than among men in any other EU country, according to Statistics Finland.

A high of thirteen thousand people were unemployed in February according to new statistics from the Bureau of Statistics. The seasonally adjusted jobless rate for the month was 5.5 percent, rising 0.6 percentage points month-on-month.
