According to the World Health Organization (WHO), insecurity and escalating violence in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, are having serious repercussions on the population's access to humanitarian aid and vital services. "This increases the risk of epidemics, particularly among women and children," a WHO official stated.

The besieged town of El Obeid in Sudan risks facing a serious humanitarian crisis if aid is not allowed in immediately, a UN official has warned. The situation, he said, could deteriorate rapidly in the coming months as paramilitary forces in the area are likely to escalate their operations.
