‘Race against time’ to remove rubble after recent earthquake in Afghanistan’s east, says UN
UN officials say aid workers are still in a “race against time” to remove rubble and rebuild after a devastating earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan east last month.
The UN noted that humanitarian workers continue to wage a "race against time" to remove debris and rebuild after the devastating earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan last month, killing at least 2,200 people, as well as isolating remote areas.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) says satellite imagery shows the earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has left more than 649,000 tonnes of debris that needs to be cleared immediately. The agency’s report, published on Wednesday, said the amount of debris was equivalent to 40,500 truckloads.
