U.N. committee expresses “grave concern” over rights violations against SCs, STs, Rohingya refugees

- Citing reports of "racially motivated violence," the committee expressed concern regarding alleged law enforcement abuses, including "extrajudicial killings, arbitrary and prolonged detention without due process, torture, ill-treatment and sexual violence."
- The panel called on the government to "refrain from collective expulsions," urging New Delhi to "urgently address discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes" against Bengali-speaking Muslims and Rohingya refugees.
- In response, India's mission defended its record, stating it "highlighted our pluralism; diversity; scale and complexity" during the review, reiterating its ongoing journey toward ensuring equality, dignity, and opportunity for all Indians.
