The Delhi High Court has dismissed bail appeals from nine people, including former student union leader Umar Khalid, who have been in prison since 2020 without a conviction over their alleged involvement in fatal riots.
The Delhi High Court rejected the bail plea of Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid, accused in the 2020 riots in Delhi. Looking at the charges of inciting riots and promoting violence, the court made it clear that everyone has the right to peaceful protest under the Constitution, but violence will not be allowed.
