Ukrainian doctor sidelined from Canadian health care due to high exam cost
Oleksandr Martsiv, a former doctor from Ukraine, is now working as a welder in Canada due to high certification costs to practice medicine again.
Martsiv has spent over 15 years serving as a doctor in Ukraine and is studying for medical exams while supporting his family through welding.
The Medical Council of Canada states that the cost for international physicians to get licensed exceeds $6,000, forcing many to work in different fields.
British Columbia's Government is fast-tracking credential recognition for U.S. doctors to address the physician shortage, with over 1,000 new family doctors licensed since 2023.
