Ukraine's Zelenskyy signs 'drone deals' with three countries
The agreements expand joint production and technology sharing as Ukraine seeks to turn battlefield-tested drone expertise into new defense partnerships.
- At the NATO summit in Ankara, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a drone cooperation agreement allowing Estonian companies to produce drones using Ukrainian expertise.
- Although Zelenskyy previously visited Tallinn, the deal remained unsigned until now due to technical discussions, while Latvia finalized its own drone agreement with Ukraine in June.
- Michal emphasized that the agreement offers Estonian companies crucial access to Ukrainian intellectual property and modern testing knowledge, with Ukraine's rapid drone development serving as the partnership's primary goal.
- While the agreement establishes an intent to produce drones, specific financial figures remain undecided, according to Michal; the pact also creates opportunities for Estonia to purchase Ukrainian-made drones.
- The leaders discussed strategies to compel Russian concessions and coordinated the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference scheduled for January 2027 in Estonia, with Michal noting Europe will not mediate Russia negotiations.
