Ukraine Treats Priceless War Data as Leverage as AI-Driven Drone Strikes Surge
Ukraine plans a cautious data-sharing policy to leverage over 3.5 years of battlefield AI training data and drone footage for stronger Western support, officials said.
- On Aug. 27, Mykhailo Fedorov, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, said Kyiv will use its battlefield data as a key leverage to secure partner support, calling it one of the 'cards' to build win-win relations.
- Ukraine's drone-heavy tactics have produced millions of hours of aerial combat footage and detailed battlefield statistics, with about 500,000 drones distributed through a video game-style points system rewarding confirmed kills.
- Ukraine uses AI tools including Palantir to analyse strikes, aid targeting and track disinformation, while nearly 1,000 applications and 50 different products are being trialled this year alongside several thousand unmanned ground vehicles supporting frontline troops.
- Andriy Yermak, Presidential Office Chief of Staff, and Rustem Umerov, Defense Council Secretary, head to New York this week as Mykhailo Fedorov said, `I can say that the demand for data is incredibly high`.
- By offering its battlefields as a testing ground, Kyiv provides unparalleled combat datasets valuable to Western defence firms and startups building military AI and drone-swarm tech, while promoting production partnerships in Denmark.
