Ukraine strikes Russia’s Ryazan oil refinery, military says
Ukrainian forces targeted Ryazan refinery to disrupt Russia’s missile fuel supply, halting operations at one of its five largest processing plants, Ukrainian General Staff said.
- On Saturday, the Ukrainian army said it struck the Ryazan oil refinery in the Ryazan region near Moscow, a day after Russia's deadly attacks on Kyiv.
- Aimed at reducing strike capacity, Ukraine's General Staff said the hit targeted Russia's ability to launch missile and bomb strikes as part of a campaign on energy and military infrastructure in the nearly four-year conflict.
- Ryazan Governor Pavel Malkov said Russian air defences shot down 25 Ukrainian drones during the night and numerous explosions and a large fire were recorded, adding `Falling debris caused a fire on the premises of one enterprise`.
- With capacity about 340,000 barrels a day, the Ryazan refinery produces about 840,000 tons of TS-1 jet kerosene used by the Russian aerospace forces, and the Ukrainian army claimed to have hit it Saturday.
- It was the second attack on the Ryazan refinery in four weeks as part of recurring strikes that also hit Novorossiysk port, Saratov refinery, and the Nebo-U radar station, the General Staff said.
