Ukraine bags a third of EU’s €300 billion external action budget bill
One third of the €300 billion earmarked by the Commission to support external action for the 2028–2034 period – designed in particular to support development aid, enlargement and neighbourhood policy and strengthen partnerships with third countries on migration – has been enveloped for Ukraine.
Brussels. The European Commission presented yesterday its “most ambitious” budget project for EUR 2 trillion (about USD 2.3 trillion) for the period 2028-2034, which includes a package of EUR 100 billion in support of Ukraine, as well as huge defence and security expenditures amounting to EUR 131 billion.
Based on the draft budget for the period 2028 to 2034 published a few days ago, the European Commission is allocating approximately 366 billion euros to support Ukraine, an amount that is roughly twenty percent of the total budget resources.
The European Commission would like 15% of the Union's future multiannual budget to be dedicated to external actions and more than a third of the money would be returned to Ukraine. First, we have a provision for €100 billion for Ukraine. I can't fathom it. On the one hand, money is being cut, for example, for agriculture, which is short by €84 billion, but on the other hand, €100 billion is being allocated to Ukraine.
